River gauge height can be important for decisions such as bridge design, high-water mitigation, and river regulations. Based on 95 years of maximum gauge height data from the US Geological Survey for the Williamson River in southern Oregon, the metalog distribution reveals the shape of the data more accurately than alternative distubutions, such as the extreme value, that hydrolgists might otherwise use.
